My summary

April 1, 2006

Well, i think act 1 isobviously about Sidi. It talks about her arrogance because of two things. One, Lakunle's endless affection towards her. Two, her picture on the front cover of the photo album about her village. Three, her picture is bigger and much more than the village chief, Baroka. Lakunle is the modern man influenced by Western culture teaching in the village. He fell in love with Sidi and wanted to marry her but at the same time, he wanted to change her. Sidi on the other hand is the belle of the village who doesn't like changes She is also arrogant because of the way she talks. Baroka is the village Bale, who is old but still seek for more wife at this age. He probably has his eyes on the village belle. I think it probably has something to do with the 'pride of the man'. He want to wed the village belle to 'control' the most beautiful girl in the village, thus, symbolizing his strength.
